The Divine War
The Divine War
Approximately one thousand years ago, a catastrophic conflict erupted between rival kami factions, dragging mortals into a war that reshaped the landscape and established the current political boundaries.
Timeline
The Provocation (Year 0)
The theft of the Sacred Mirror from the Sun Shrine by unknown entities triggered hostilities between the celestial and terrestrial kami.
The Mortal Alliance (Years 1-5)
Human clans were forced to choose sides, with those backing the victorious celestial kami eventually becoming the ruling noble houses of today.
The Cataclysm (Year 7)
A battle in the northern provinces resulted in the complete destruction of three major cities when a fire kami and water kami unleashed their full powers simultaneously.
The Divine Accord (Year 12)
After more than a decade of destruction, the mystical Treaty of Silver Leaves established boundaries between kami influence and human governance.
Legacy
The Divine War fundamentally altered how humans interact with kami. The Treaty established formal rituals for summoning and binding spirits, prohibited direct divine intervention in mortal conflicts, and created the Shrine Maiden system for mediating between realms.
Some regions still bear scars from this conflict, with blighted areas where nothing grows and ruins that cannot be rebuilt due to lingering spiritual corruption.
